Our Mission: TOI of Boston seeks to develop nationally competitive TOI teams by training teams of skaters who will challenge themselves to acquire new skills, experience the thrill of competition, and enjoy the friendships developed through education to a team effort.
Theatre On Ice (TOI) is a form of competitive figure skating that is popular in Europe, where it is known as Ballet On Ice. It combines the grace of figureskating with the excitement of theater and dance. Teams range in size from 8 to 24 skaters. Solo skating is permitted in limited amounts if it enhances the overall telling of the program’s story. The programs are judged by U.S. Figure Skating judges and are evaluated on technical merit and presentation with emphasis on originality, costuming, artistry and musicality. TOI is a U.S. Figure Skating program, with teams and competitions around the country. Skaters, both competitive and noncompetitive, can learn and grow on a theatre team.
Our philosophy for The Skating Club of Boston’s Theatre On Ice program is:
Together Everyone Achieves More – TEAM!
TOI of Boston’s success depends on the cooperation from its families. Participation in TOI of Boston is a serious commitment for our skaters. These athletes need the steadfast support of their families throughout the many hours of practice and preparation that go into a successful season. The commitment of the skater (as well as the commitment of our skaters’ families) to work for the success of the team rather than for individual acclaim and recognition is what makes TOI of Boston a unique skating discipline.
Theatre on Ice at The Skating Club of Boston is managed by our Program Director, Coaching Team, Team Managers, and a variety of volunteer committees: Logistics, Costumes, Team Spirit & Hospitality. It is the fabulous commitment of all our volunteers that allows TOI of Boston to offer the quality programming and support of its skaters. We ask everyone to step up and takes a small role and together we make it all happen for our skaters!
Our TOI of Boston coaching philosophy is a based on team coaching. We strive to have skaters work with at least two coaches at every practice. Our Coaching Team brings over 40 years of combined experience to our TOI of Boston skaters, providing them with a solid basis to hone their skating skills while drawing out their performance talents.
